She got the lowest possible score on the body condition scale. One less point, and she would have been dead. But on a day that felt like any other, someone found her just in time.
A stranger, their face etched with concern, walked into a shelter carrying a fragile bundle. He had found a stray pit bull mix wandering alone on a desolate road, a ghost of a dog, barely able to place one paw in front of the other.
