The dog’s body slammed into the door.
I screamed and pulled the handle at the same time, not even thinking — just reacting. The cat slipped inside in a flash, claws scraping the floor as he ran past my legs.
The dog barked wildly outside, scratching the glass, but it was too late.
The little cat ran straight under the table and collapsed, shaking so hard his whole body moved. I wrapped him in a towel and felt his heart racing like a tiny drum.
Minutes later, the dog outside gave up and disappeared into the dark street.
The cat slowly lifted his head and looked at me.
That look… wasn’t just fear. It was relief.
I don’t know how long he had been running. I don’t know where he came from. But I know one thing:
If he hadn’t stopped at this door at that exact moment… he wouldn’t have made it.
Tonight, a life was saved by a piece of glass… and a split-second decision.
